Set Your Status
Your status in Teams is normally updated based on your calendar busy status. You can see your status in the upper-right corner next to your profile photo or initials in the Profile menu. The status shows other colleagues in your organization if you are currently available or if they should try to contact you later.
Make sure to use it properly, because the status affects the way you get notifications. You have six status options, including Do not disturb.
Set Your Status
Click your profile photo or initials in the top-right corner to open the Profile menu.
Click the first option in the now displayed menu. This is your current status.
Click the status you want to be displayed.
You can reset the status by clicking Reset status.
You can set the duration of your status by skipping steps 3 and 4. Click Duration and set your status and duration there.
TIP
Is there a shortcut I can use to set my status?
Yes, you can use the search bar at the top of the Teams desktop app. There is a command for every status. You can set it to /busy, /brb, /away, /offline, /available, /dnd. Just type in the command and press Enter. Learn more about slash commands in Chapter 4.
Set Your Status Message
In addition to the overall status indicator, you can specify a status message. There is space for a few sentences that explain or supplement your current status. You can also use this message if you are planning for a longer absence or vacation.

Click your profile photo or initials in the top-right corner to open the Profile menu.
Click Set status message.
Type your status message.
Click Show when people message me to make it more noticeable.
Set how long this message should display.
When you are happy with the message, click Done.
TIP
Can I refer directly to one of my colleagues as a representative?
Just like in many other places in Microsoft Teams, you can use the @mention in your status to refer directly to someone else in your stead.
Enable Do Not Disturb
The Do not disturb status is set by default when sharing a screen or app during a Teams meeting. However, you can also set this yourself anytime you’d like. The Do not disturb status suppresses nearly all notifications, so no messages or calls will pop up onto your screen. This makes the status a nice feature to mute all notifications when enabled.

You can reset the status by clicking Reset status.
You can set the duration of your Do not disturb by skipping steps 3 and 4; instead, click Duration. Set your status and the time after which it should reset. Now click Done.
Manage Priority Access
If you have colleagues who need to reach you even when you are in the Do not disturb mode, there is an option to allow exceptions to bypass the block. Note that these colleagues can bypass the block even when you are presenting your screen in a meeting.
