       B Student Support and Success

      Like a growing number of colleges today, Coe offers a First Year Seminar to help students transition from high school to college. This program emphasizes learning basic writing skills and offers a number of different classes to take to get these skills. To support this, the college has a Writing Center plus a Speaking Center for stronger oral presentations. The college also provides an Academic Achievement Program that offers an umbrella of services. Academic assistance includes tutoring, advising, helping with study skills, getting supplemental instruction, reading assistance and math help. Several types of counseling are offered, including peer, personal, career and substance abuse. In addition, Coe offers the TRANSITIONS program, a half-credit course that helps students “improve skills necessary for successful performance in college,” including the topics of study skills, time management, self motivation and personal responsibility.

      Coe College provides a variety of support programs including guidance in academic, career, personal, psychological, family planning, minority students and religion. Remedial and refresher courses are available in: reading · writing · math · study skills. Annually, 79 percent of freshmen students return for their sophomore year. Approximately 20 percent of students pursue a graduate degree right after graduation. One year after graduation, the school reports that 25 percent of graduates have entered graduate school. Among students who enter the workforce, approximately 63 percent enter a field related to their major within six months of graduation.        How to Get Admitted

      For admissions decisions, non-academic factors considered: interview · extracurricular activities · special talents, interests and abilities · character/personal qualities · volunteer work · work experience · state of residency · alumni relationship. A high school diploma is required, although a GED is also accepted for admissions consideration. SAT or ACT test scores are required of all applicants. According to the admissions office: Minimum composite ACT score of 20 (combined SAT Reasoning score of 940), rank in top two-fifths of secondary school class and minimum 3.0 GPA recommended. Academic units recommended: 4 English, 3 Math, 3 Science, 3 Social Studies, 2 Foreign Language.
