       B Student Support and Success

      At Coastal Carolina, professional academic advising and peer mentoring are available. The school also has a course called UNIV 110, which is designed to develop critical thinking and research skills, to provide community support during the first semester of enrollment and to acquaint students with the school's resources. Tutoring sessions are offered and there is even a Grammar Hotline to call. The UNIV 110 course, also known as a “First Year Experience,” involves peers, faculty and staff and other members within the community. Students play an active part in forums, workshops, discussions, readings, case studies and community service projects. This includes assignments that might come in various forms, ranging from quizzes, tests and journals to presentations, portfolios and writing projects. In the end, UNIV 110 helps students to develop a clearer and more comprehensive academic and career development plan for the future.

The average freshman year GPA is 2.9, and 63 percent of freshmen students return for their sophomore year. Approximately 15 percent of graduates pursue a graduate degree immediately after graduation.        Support for Students with Learning Disabilities

      Students with learning disabilities may choose to take a lightened course load. High school foreign language waivers are accepted. According to the school, all students who register are requested to participate in a coaching relationship with the counselor where an academic plan is developed and followed and there are meetings with the student throughout the first semester. Meetings include time management, organization, specific areas of weakness (i.e. reading, math, writing), tutoring and study group.        How to Get Admitted

A high school diploma is required, although a GED is also accepted for admissions consideration. SAT or ACT test scores are required of all applicants. SAT Subject Test scores are considered, if submitted, but are not required. According to the admissions office: Sliding scale with minimum combined SAT Reasoning score of 960 (composite ACT score of 21) and minimum 3.0 GPA required. Academic units recommended: 4 English, 4 Math, 3 Science, 2 Social Studies, 2 Foreign Language.

       Campus Setting

      Coe, founded in 1851, is a church-affiliated, liberal arts college. Its 60-acre campus is located a mile from downtown Cedar Rapids. A four-year private institution, Coe College has an enrollment of 1,420 students. Although not originally a co-educational college, Coe College has been co-ed since 1853. In addition to a large, well-stocked library, the campus facilities include: music studio · GIS/GPS lab. Coe College provides on-campus housing with 20 units that can accommodate 1,186 students. Blindspot, athletic events, plays, Presidential Ball and Homecoming are the most popular social events of the year. Coe College has 81 official student organizations. Students groups who influence campus life include Greeks, Cosmos, athletes and the Senate.        Academics and Learning Environment

      Coe College has 93 full-time and 74 part-time faculty members, offering a student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1. The most common course size is 10 to 19 students. Coe College offers 51 majors. The most popular majors are business administration, psychology and nursing. The least popular are German, French and philosophy. The school has a general core requirement.
