Die großen Herausforderungen unserer Zeit können nicht mithilfe der Naturwissenschaften und der Technik allein gelöst werden, sondern es bedarf eines grundlegenden Verständnisses des Anthropos, des Menschen, und seiner Lebensweisen, die sowohl die Natur fundamental verändern, als auch von diesen Veränderungen betroffen und beeinflusst werden. Die Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie, die Wissenschaft des Menschen als kulturelles und soziales Wesen, bietet in diesem Zusammenhang sowohl theoretische und konzeptuelle Perspektiven als auch die methodischen Werkzeuge, um die unterschiedlichen menschlichen Lebensweisen im Anthropozän dokumentieren und verstehen zu können.
