      Many people think that change in the world happens in 10 Downing Street or Washington, DC. But those who see more deeply, know the truth. Real change happens when one person, perhaps in the solitary confines of his or her room, or in a cave in the Himalayas, makes a spiritual breakthrough. This sets up a chain reaction that eventually manifests as changes in law or changes in government policy.

      There are two spiritual paths that seem important this year. The first is learning about transformation and reinvention – the power of the spirit to transform the body and all material conditions (finance, career, the love life, etc.) The other is the scientific, rational understanding of the spiritual world and your spiritual practice. In some paths, the intellect is disdained and considered the enemy. But in paths such as Jnana yoga, hermetic science and kabbala, the intellect, purified of its errors, is actually a friend and an ally, and is taken along for the ride – not disdained.

      This is also a year for going deeper into the spiritual dimensions of sex. For those of you of eastern inclination, tantra yoga or kundalini yoga would be good. For westerners, the path of hermetic science, gnosis and kabbala would be good. The year ahead, as mentioned, seems sexually active, and it is good to know the proper ways to engage in the act.

      As your year begins, the planetary power is starting to make an important shift from the West to the East. For many months now the western, social sector was dominant in your horoscope. But this is starting to change. After the 20th the East and the West will be balanced, and next month, the eastern sector will dominate. Thus you are becoming ever more independent, more in charge of your destiny, more able to have things your way. Get ready to start creating conditions instead of adapting to them.

      Your 9th house is very strong early in the month. When the 9th house is strong we all become students – regardless of our age or stage in life. A good philosophical or religious discussion is more enjoyable than a night out on the town. It is a period where mental horizons get expanded. In many cases there are religious or philosophical breakthroughs. We get deeper insights into the meaning of life and the meaning of events. Those of you who are literally students should have a good month – with some bumps on the road. Your interest leads you to success in your studies. A solar eclipse on the 4th occurs in this house as well. Your belief systems, your personal religion, will get tested – and beliefs found wanting will either disappear or get revised in a better way. For students this shows some turmoil in educational plans – there can be changes of school, changes in the area of study, changes of professors, changes in the rules of the game. There can be changes in the administration – in the upper echelons – of your school or religious institution. Every solar eclipse (and there are three more to go) has an impact on the family and home situation. So there can be drama in the lives of family members, and especially parents or parent figures in your life. Flaws in the home or in the family situation get revealed so that you can correct them. But this eclipse seems basically benign to you.

      On the 20th you enter a yearly career peak as the Sun starts to cross your midheaven. Your focus is on your career – as it should be. Some 80 to 90 per cent of the planets are above the horizon as well. You can safely downplay family issues (though the eclipse on the 4th will distract you) and focus on your career. Even family members seem supportive of your career goals during this period. The family as a whole is elevated in status. Along with this heightened career activity and worldly ambition is an expansion of your spiritual life. Jupiter enters your spiritual 12th house on the 22nd. So now you will have to somehow ‘marry’ your spiritual ideals with a worldly, outer career – not so easy to do. You can start by getting more involved in charities and causes that you believe in. Let spirit guide your career moves.

      Love should have been active last month, and the trend continues early this month as well. Social connections play a large role in earnings, after the 12th.

      Pay more attention to your health after the 20th. Rest and relax more during this period.

      Many of the trends written about last month are still in effect now. Most of the planets (80 to 90 per cent) are above the horizon, your 10th house of career is still strong, while your 4th house of home and family is basically empty (only the Moon will move through there on the 16th and 17th). So continue to focus on your career and outer success. This is the best way to serve your family. There is much progress and success happening now.

      By the 8th the planetary power is in the East, and will stay that way for many more months. Personal initiative, rather than social skills, becomes important. All our gifts are important, but at different times one might take priority over another. Now it is good to cultivate personal independence and personal judgement. You have less need of others these days. Sure, you will have a social life, but you are not needy or dependent.

      Love still seems active. Venus (the universal ruler of love, and also the lord of your horoscope) will travel with your love planet from the 8th to the 11th. This should bring happy social and romantic opportunity. For singles this shows a romantic meeting or tryst. This could be with someone new or with someone you are involved with – it seems happy. You seem the pursuer here.

      The month ahead – especially from the 19th onwards – is highly social. You are more involved with groups and organizations – attending meetings, involved with group activities, doing a lot of networking.

      While your yearly career peak is technically over by the 19th, in reality it is extended this month and next. For now your career planet receives much stimulation from the short-term planets, and this is bringing career opportunity and success. (These aspects will become more exact next month, but they are in effect now, too.)

      Overall health is good, but rest and relax more until the 19th. Detox regimes are powerful after the 4th. Until the 4th pay more attention to your liver and thighs. After the 4th pay more attention to your spine, knees, teeth, bones and overall skeletal alignment. The colon, bladder and sexual organs should be given more therapeutic attention as well.

      Spirituality has become an important area of life. Pay close attention to your dreams from the 16th to the 19th and from the 20th to the 22nd. You and family members are having other important spiritual experiences during that period, too.
