      ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

To all the American servicemen and women whom I have met and with whom I have operated and trained during my travels, and who stand in harm’s way every day — you are the reason I wrote this book.

“The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.”

      Thucydides, 471 B.C.
