      Uranus travelling with Jupiter, your love planet – late last year and early this year – brings a sense of freedom in love and social activities. In some cases this will lead to serial love affairs or friendships. All the rule books are being thrown out and you are learning about love by trial and error – seeing what works for you. Experimentation in love is basically good, so long as it isn’t destructive.

      Your biggest challenge in love early this year is the mood changes. These are quick and bewildering. Passions can be so high, so tender, one moment and then shift in an instant to hate, anger, resentment. This is true of you or of the partners you are involved with. It will take hard work to bring these feelings into control. These mood changes make love a constant soap opera – interesting, but obsessive and unstable.

      Uranus is moving into your 11th house of friends on March 12. Before that, the excitement was in your romantic life; now it shifts to the friendships. By the time Uranus is finished with you – the next seven years or so – you will be in completely different social circumstances. Existing friends are not meeting your needs, (perhaps they can’t – they are unable to), so you will need to move into a circle where these needs can be fulfilled. This is a period where you need to give a lot of freedom to others – work on non-attachment. You can be somebody’s friend, be there for them, enjoy their company, in a non-attached way. This is your challenge for the next seven years.

      You begin your year with most of the planets (after the 7th the percentage is 80–90 per cent) above the horizon of the chart. Thus you are very much in the ‘day’ of your year. A period for career focus and the pursuit of outer success. Reinforcing this is the fact that your 4th house of home and family is empty (only the Moon moves through there on the 22nd and 23rd), while your 10th house of career is strong. So reach for the Sun, Moon and stars now. You can safely downplay family responsibilities (you can’t ignore them altogether) and focus on your career. Sometimes we serve our families best by being there, and sometimes by providing for them and being successful. This is a time for the latter.

      The western, social sector of your chart is also overwhelmingly dominant now. So the dictum, ‘not by might nor by power, but by my spirit’ applies to you now. Personal ability and personal merit seem to matter little these days – it is the grace of others, your likeability, that get you to your goals.

      You are just coming out of a yearly social peak (it happened last month) but your 7th house of love is strong until the 13th. So love and social matters are going well. You are more popular these days as you put the interests of others above your own. You are there for your friends – on their side, devoted to them. You are also more aggressive socially, taking the bull by the horns and creating social events and friendships – you initiate these things. If you like someone, that person knows it – you are not afraid to make a direct approach. Many of you have got involved in serious love relationships over the past few months, and it could still happen this month – suddenly and unexpectedly. Of late you have become a ‘love at first sight’ kind of person. You know immediately whether someone is for you or not. And with your love planet moving into Aries on the 22nd, this tendency will only get stronger. When the aspects are kind, everything works well and you save a lot of time skirting all the niceties of courtship. But when the aspects are not kind, there can be hurt and pain. In the next few months you are called to develop fearlessness in love. Actual success or failure in relationships is not really the issue – the fact that you conquer fear, timidity and shyness is the real issue. That is your victory.

      There is a solar eclipse on the 4th that occurs in your 8th house. This causes financial upheavals and financial change for your spouse, partner or current love. These changes will be good in the long term, but fearful and disruptive in the short term. If you are involved in tax, estate or insurance issues, there is a dramatic turn of events – things start to move forward and get resolved one way or another. Though this eclipse is benign to you, it does force you to confront death – usually on a psychological level.

      Job-seekers have good fortune after the 13th. Likewise those who employ others.

      Last month your 8th house was very strong. Thus it was a sexually active period (each according to his or her age and stage in life) and a period for detox, personal transformation and reinvention. On the 20th of last month, your 9th house became powerful and is still powerful now until the 19th. When the 9th house is strong in our charts, we all become students. Students and teachers. This is a very comfortable situation for you (you are a natural student, regardless of what house is strong). But now your studies turn to deeper issues – not just the daily trivia of the newspapers or magazines or gossip columns, but the study of higher things: religion, philosophy, the meaning of life, theology, foreign affairs and foreign cultures. It is a time for breakthroughs and insights in these fields. This is especially so for those at university or postgraduate level. Travel opportunities should come, and you should take them.

      On the 19th, as the Sun crosses your midheaven, you enter a yearly career peak. So there is career progress and success happening now. Your ambitions are very strong. You have high goals and you will make good progress towards their attainment. After the 21st, Mercury, your ruling planet, crosses the midheaven – another indicator of success and high attainment. You are on top, in charge, above everyone in your world, honoured, appreciated, lordly. Family members also seem successful, and they even seem supportive of your career goals. There is no real conflict between family and career these days (as is so often the case) – you and the family are on the same page. On the 23rd Mars enters your 10th house; this indicates that you are working hard and that the pace of work is frenetic. You or your company are fighting off competition aggressively. It also shows that you have friends in high places – allies – who are helping your career.

      Finance has not been a big issue these past two months. In general, though, you will earn more and have more enthusiasm for finance from the 3rd to the 18th as the Moon waxes than at other times.
