In introducing this Directory, in a cheap and comprehensive form, to our numerous subscribers, very few comments are necessary. Great inconvenience is felt in all large districts through not being able at a moment’s notice to discover the place of abode of various individuals, such as customers, friends, &c. To obviate this has induced us to attempt the compiling one of a pure local character, at a price within the means of all classes. We trust we have succeeded in completing a work which cannot fail in giving satisfaction to our subscribers. It is our intention to publish annually, and doubt not, as we become more acquainted with the locality, being enabled to establish a work which will become thoroughly useful as a book of reference.
