Rhyme
The rhymes in this book are based on the standard pronunciation of British English, that is, the way words are spoken in southern England by people who do not have a regional accent. Different rhymes are possible in other parts of the English-speaking world. In northern Britain, for example, words such as class, glass and grass rhyme with gas and lass rather than farce. And in the USA, missile rhymes with whistle, and fertile with turtle, as in the following rhyme:
The turtle lives ’twixt plated decks
Which practically conceal its sex.
I think it clever of the turtle
In such a fix to be so fertile.
