История психотерапии как научно-практической дисциплины начинается с появления в 1895 году книги австрийских врачей Й. Брейера и З. Фрейда «Очерки об истерии» (Breuer, Freud, 1895), в которой был предложен новый взгляд на невроз как на бессознательный интрапсихический конфликт и заложены основы первого психотерапевтического метода – психоанализа.
