Сформированные убеждения служат ориентиром в работе, на них основаны техники. Но от психотерапевта требуется не идеологизация, а помощь в личностном росте, в приобретении навыков быть самостоятельным и самостоятельно принимать решения. Поэтому неэтичными, непрофессиональными и неэффективными являются советы и манипуляции. Главное, к чему стремится психотерапевт, – чтобы клиент сам принимал на себя ответственность за свои потребности и поведение.
