      From the author

About the book: the novel in verse “Time and love” is unusual in form. The structure of the novel is 365 illuminating the plot flashes; each is a complete literary work. “Days” make up “months,” four chapters – “seasons” and, finally, a single and unified concentrated “year.” It is not postmodernism, not chaos from the world of subconscious dreams and hallucinations, unrelated to each other. It is instead impressionism framed in the book.

Sudden illumination highlights the very essence of events, which is subject only to poetry or proverb. Impulses, quickly changing in the chronological chain of episodes, create a complete picture of the development of events. Each of the 365 «days» of the year emerges from each other, complementing the previous one, contains new approaches to present the most-read eternal theme of love of all ages and times.

Anyway, the first «month» (two in «Indian spring») of four «seasons» is dedicated exclusively to love.

Once in the US, the Russian poet E. Yevtushenko called me from a neighboring state and advised to improve the melody of the verse. I went to Goa for a year and rewrote the novel, replacing the verlibre to the more melodic and familiar style for the Russian ear and adding many new episodes. The polished story was twice larger. The novel was written in a three-beat meter with the rhyme of the second and fourth lines. Anyhow, verlibre remains in this English translation by the author (a few dozen poems were already in English).

Translated into English, Arabic, Spanish, Chinese and French, the book «200 love poems» – now part of the novel in verse «Time and love» – gives a composite image of a woman as a wife. Naturally, the personality of my spouse found the reflection in these episodes. The preface to «200 love poems», where you will find information about the author and his work, is placed after the author’s introduction.

Location: it is a small corner of the Universe – the Earth, its Himalayas, and Cordillera, the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, and many countries, especially the largest: India, Russia, Canada, and the USA.

Time: centuries, more often the 20th and 21st. The events follow the Indian calendar because the New Year comes in spring.

Actors: Nature and people of the planet, mostly – the female half. Both Nature and people speak their languages, which India, one of the most spiritually developed countries in the world, teaches to understand and respect.

Two of the hundreds of reviews about the author’s poetry from around the world: “… I’m reading Pospelow. His struggle to remain whole is laid bare in the language which calls the blood to the surface, the heart has gone to the heels…” – American poet Billy Durand; “… at the level of Marina Tsvetaeva … " – poet, People’s Artist of Russia, Artistic director of “The theater at the Nikitsky Gate” Mark Rozovsky.

George Pospelow, an American of Russian descent, is a man of 50 professions. A career diplomat in India, consul in Greece, United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, and woodcutter. Scientist having PhD in World History, MLIS in Informatics, MA in Literature, BA in Linguistics, and loader. Translator of 12 languages, and a big company manager. Traveler in 22 countries, sometimes for half a year like in India, and teacher. University librarian, and writer.

In Russia, he was the head of the department of general consular problems of the Consular Service, the Ministry of foreign affairs of Russia. Among other things, he prepared a new book «The guidance to the consuls of the Russian Federation» and the radically new Law of the country «The Consular Tariff. "One of the other most important documents was a draft of the renewed Law «How to enter and exit the Russian Federation.» The Foreign Minister endorsed, but the Supreme Soviet rejected. Pospelow tried to show that almost everyone had the right to leave Russia, and although he could not persuade the Supreme Soviet, he proved it to himself.

«200 love poems» is his first book to be offered to the public. Readers will delight in the original style of the author. George’s journey and his book may be a self-fulfilling prophecy. In 1977 in India, the Dalai Lama professed that the author would sleep for dozens of years and awake in a different country as a poet, like a native gold.

Sometimes poetry is a journey run by words that compose themselves the emotions of the one who writes, settle on paper and from there to the sensitive vibes of the one who reads attentively.

In the case of George Pospelow’s book, this relation transcends until reaching the reader’s fortuitous cooperation with the writing. This success, which is the consequence of an exceptional poetic job, has as a source the narration that the writer of Russian origin, living in North America, allows appearing in free verse, making his great journey possible.

As in Homer’s famous pilgrimage, the literary work which Pospelow now shares, is populated with characters, situations, distant and adventurous places, fountains of inspiration. We can sometimes observe the danger, often the places which he takes us to visit are the forerunner of the disappointment, but they also possess the euphoria of the first meeting, this sudden energy which appears between a man and a woman, now in the context of the most exotic scenarios.

From the start to the end, the adventure is called love. The love of epic proportions, from Cashmere to Russia, from the bottom of the ocean to the top of the mountains, from the thickness of the Asiatic jungle to the ice-cold Canadian city, this audacious literary bet is also capable of building a story. In this quality, it certainly gets rich thanks to the subtle usage of the language, where rests the comforting beauty of the well-ended work.

Pospelow, the native of St. Petersburg, living in Canada and in the United States, the man of 50 professions possessing a constant feeling, which makes the vital lead of «200 poems of love» possible, exposes himself through every letter which he prints on the white sheet. His evocation is modern, but also holds a mythical quality, ancestral, sometimes even humorous, occasionally furious, tender, innocent, childish, then mature, sober, mistrustful, finally serene, but above all, vital.

Time and love are the foundation of the poetic proposition, which appears as a fresh drop of water because it also has the chance to be, above all, a practically original writer. From this quality of innovation, he shares a loving chronicle capable of melting the enjoyment of the premature romance with the nervousness of the temporary separation, the dynamism of a strengthened union, the step towards a daily habitation. He shows the anger of a couple with fate watching them, the doubt of a shared future, the see-saw motion from an extraordinary life, as poetry must be itself.

Everything said takes place during the four seasons of the year, which gives faith to the chapters of this work: «Indian Spring,» «Russian Summer,» «Canadian Autumn,» and finally, СКАЧАТЬ
