      A NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER

      The “Dare Boys” are Dick and Tom Dare, two patriot youths, brothers, “from about three miles over in New Jersey.” They get caught up in key episodes of the United States’ Revolutionary War—and the years after—interacting with historically important figures along the way. This is a great series for readers interested in U.S. history.

      The series originally ran for 12 books, but only three are available at this time. All three are included here.

      The series consisted of:

      1. The Dare Boys of 1776 (1910).

      2. The Dare Boys on the Hudson (1910).

      3. The Dare Boys in Trenton (1910).

      4. The Dare Boys on the Brandywine (1910).

      5. The Dare Boys in the Red City (1910).

      6. The Dare Boys After Benedict Arnold (1910).

      7. The Dare Boys in Virginia (1910).

      8. The Dare Boys With General Greene (1910).

      9. The Dare Boys With Lafayette (1910).

      10. The Dare Boys and the “Swamp Fox” (1911).

      11. The Dare Boys at Vincennes (1912).

      12. The Dare Boys in the North West (1913).

      Note: as with all books of this period, language, idiom, racial sensitivity, and appropriateness may not mesh with contemporary standards. For example, young readers of the era were expected to know terms like “sang froid” (literally “cold blood”—coolness under pressure), and some of the dialog is in dialect. (Sound it out and it will make sense.) Native Americans are also depicted as savage tools of the British.

      These books are artifacts of the age in which they were written; please go in with this fact in mind.
