ENGLISH LITERATURE
Description of the Examination
The English Literature examination covers material from the past 2,500 years. The different critical abilities and literary terms identified in a semester-long literature course are covered in this examination.
College Literature courses go beyond a general understanding of English to incorporate analytical terms as well as the ability to interpret and understand multiple genres of writing. The exam covers topics such as the identification of poetic devices and authors, appropriate application of literary devices, and the terms to describe effects in passages.
The examination contains approximately 95 questions to be answered in 90 minutes. Any time candidates spend on tutorials and providing personal information is in addition to the actual testing time.
This practice examination is intended to help the student practice at the appropriate level of difficulty to do well on the CLEP English Literature exam. These questions do not actually appear on the CLEP English Literature exam.
There is also an optional essay component of this exam; that will not be outlined in this study guide as each school decides if they will accept this portion and they grade it independently.
