RESUMEN
El objetivo del presente capítulo es introducir al entrenador personal en el ámbito de los conceptos básicos de la fisiología del ejercicio. Las cuestiones en él tratadas no se presentan de manera exhaustiva, debido a la limitación de espacio y no porque no haya otras nociones que también son importantes. La atención se centra en la fisiología cardiovascular y pulmonar, la función musculoesquelética y las adaptaciones al entrenamiento, puesto que son estos los aspectos que con más frecuencia interesan en la actividad del entrenador personal. No obstante, las funciones endocrinas, metabólicas y otras funciones corporales también son de interés. Así pues, se recomienda que, a medida que vayan planteándose nuevas cuestiones para clientes concretos, el entrenador consulte referencias adicionales que le ayuden a comprender las potenciales alteraciones y el modo en el que el cuerpo funciona en condiciones de tensión física. Este planteamiento orientado al aprendizaje sobre el estado del cliente ayudará al entrenador personal a desarrollar programas de ejercicio seguros y eficaces.
