Introduction
Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome is a condition brought about by the adrenal glands’ failure in hormone production, thereby disallowing the body to cope with stress effectively. The adrenal gland is supposed to produce the hormone called cortisol which is a very useful hormone for the body to be able to cope with different stress and also to fight infections. But when a person experiences adrenal fatigue syndrome, it means that the production of cortisol is hampered and so the body feels fatigued and lacking of energy most of the time. This is why adrenal fatigue syndrome is also known as intense stress or chronic fatigue that cannot easily be fixed or coped with even if the body has had enough rest already.
Adrenal fatigue syndrome has been called many names in the past and some of these names are sub-clinical hypoadrenia, adrenal apathy, adrenal neurasthenia, and non-Addison's hypoadrenia. This syndrome is often mistaken by many people as normal stress or fatigue. For this reason, it is a must to get to know more about the adrenal fatigue syndrome so that you’ll know when it hits, you’ll know how serious this can be as well as you’ll learn some tips and advices on how to treat this condition.
Chapter 1. Causes of Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome
The major cause of adrenal fatigue syndrome is the adrenal glands’ failure to produce enough cortisol to help the body cope with stress. But there are things that also contribute to causing the malfunction of the adrenal glands. Learning about these causes can help you better understand why such adrenal gland malfunction exists and causes this syndrome.
-Too Much Stress physically, mentally and emotionally. This refers to too much pressure in the physical, mental and motional aspects of one’s life to the point that these pressures can cause too much stress already. Stress may be normal but if there is too much of it, it wears out the adrenal glands already even if it produces cortisol to combat stress. This is especially if you are always in too much stress from work, stress from depressing situations, etc. since the cortisol that is produced by the adrenal glands may no longer be enough to deal with the amount of stress you are experiencing.
-Serious and Recurring Infections. This refers to serious illnesses like respiratory illnesses, cancer, etc. Infections can also give the adrenal glands stress and pressure and this is most especially if they are recurring. If your body is always exposed to certain kinds of diseases as it always comes back from time to time, it also wears out the adrenal glands and sometimes the amount of cortisol it produces can no longer take the infections that attack and recur.
-Too Much Cortisol Medications. This refers to taking in medications that heightens the production of cortisol hormones. Medications such as corticosteroids are meant to give synthetic cortisols to the body in order to cope with stress. However, too much of these medications can greatly increase cortisol production which is just as dangerous as underproduction of these hormones. Too much cortisol production can lead to adrenal gland malfunction as well as an impaired immune system and so adrenal fatigue syndrome can be experienced and may only increase instead of disappear.
